The University School, a cooperative venture unique to Hall and the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, is a program that allows Hall juniors and seniors to take college  courses while still in high school.  This program is known across the nation as "concurrent credit," but Hall named it the University School Program to denote a special link with UALR.  The selected courses, taught on the Hall campus, not only count on the student's college transcript but also toward graduation requirements of the Little Rock School District.  UALR awards each participant a grant-in-aid for one half the cost of tuition.  UALR is a fully accredited institution of higher learning, whose credits routinely are accepted by other accredited college and universities across the nation.  Each course is taught by one UALR professor teamed with one Hall teacher.  The coordinator of the University School program is Ms. Marilyn Brewster.  Students taking part in the program in the 1999-2000 school year could earn up to sixteen credit hours.

To be admitted to the University School program, the participating student must be admitted to UALR.  In order to be admitted, he or she must have at least a 2.5 GPA on at least 50% of the state recommended college preparatory courses, a minimum overall high school GPA of 3.0, or a minimum of 21 on the ACT.

We at Hall are excited about the success of our University School , and look forward to next year.  Our student participants have overwhelmingly endorsed their experience.  Lauren Weintraub, senior, voiced her opinion:  "I think the University School is wonderful!  When I graduate, I will have twelve hours of college credit already completed.  The University School has given me added responsibilities that will prepare me for life after high school."  Said another student, "The program is excellent!  It gives those who want something extra the opportunity to reach their full potential as a student and as a person."
