LITERACY COACH - Trina Bright

Trina Bright is one of our state's National Board Certified Teachers in English/Language Arts. She received her Master's in Reading from the University of Central Arkansas and is working toward her doctorate in education. She is also a graduate of the Faulkner County Leadership Institute. Trina previously taught at Conway and Mt. Vernon Enola schools. She is currently the Literacy Coach at Hall Senior High School. Trina is a very busy woman. Her other duties include being on the executive board of the Arkansas Council of Teachers of Language Arts (ACTELA), secretary of the North Central Arkansas Reading Council, a tutor at the Faulkner County Literacy Council, and a teacher consultant of the National Writer's Project (UCA). Trina is a member of Phi Lambda Theta Honor Society and Delta Kappa Gamma Society International. She enjoys running and reading.

The job of the Literacy Coach is to develop a literacy program that integrates reading and writing strategies across the curriculum. The coach helps teachers identify appropriate texts to use with their students, collaborates in devising lessons that help students learn effectively from content texts and models activities that engage students in reading and writing while they learn new content. The Literacy Coach makes presentations at faculty meetings and consults with departments, teams, and individual teachers to help improve reading and writing in the classroom. The Literacy Coach is also in charge of gathering and explaining test data that will help teachers better serve all learning styles. The coach's job, in a nutshell, is to help teachers help their students be better readers and writers.
